Alliance for Democracy (Aford) president Enoch Chihana has challenged the Aford faction under Godfrey Shawa to source money for a fresh convention to prove that he (Chihana) is the people’s choice.

Chihana, who is also Minister of Youth and Sports, issued the challenge during a press briefing held at Mzuzu Youth Centre hall on Wednesday.

He was reacting to recent moves by Shawa and company to take him to court for allegedly disrupting a joint convention at Mary Mount Secondary School in Mzuzu on Friday and going ahead with elections on Saturday that saw him and others being voted into positions.

Shawa’s camp has since obtained an injunction nullifying the outcome of the elections and the whole process.

Former Aford spokesperson Dan Msowoya, who is in Shawa’s faction, confirmed obtaining an injunction nullifying the elections.

He said: “The court has given us an injunction. Right now, we are just waiting for the registrar to sign it. Chihana does not listen. We called him for discussions, but he did not want to listen, he is a problem.”

During the press briefing, Chihana said he was ready to go to court.
